I think most people were there since Albert Premier was not so crowded.Upon arriving at the top of the HERSE chairlift, we’re ready to take a small downhill run on some icy pistes and begin our first ascent of the well known Col du Passon. All I know is far left is Guide Martin’s tracks, then mine (Jeff’s), followed by Gijs (3rd from left), everyone elses is a blur!!

As with most mountain trips (and most things in life in all reality), a little bit of flexibility goes a long way. There were times when rocks slid down the hill towards us. Bathroom is in lower building, whose path was icy, and horrifyingly dangerous to get to.Nothing is easy to get to – nothing! From here we take the train to Argentière, then take the lifts up and Ski/Hike to Refuge Albert Premier. Just up ahead where you see the group of 4 skiers is where a skier went down sick and had to be helicoptered out – he was shivering badly.Boy did the sun feel good at the top of this first Col! These include extending the tour to the Swiss village of Saas Fee, which is the classic finish to the Haute Route. The Pigne D’Arolla at 3800 Meters is our goal in two days!The Pas de Chat, shown with some arrows, taken from the Lac des DixThe long and winding road. By taking advantage of the staffed huts along the way we are able to undertake the tour carrying only daypacks. Originally we were supposed to go from Cabane du Trient to Cabane du Mont Fort. It was snowing and blowing like crazy. Huts provide hot meals and warm bunks to ease the body after each day of skiing. This couloir is well known to the ski racers of the Patrouille des Glaciers – the race between Zermatt and Verbier.
